Academic Guidelines

To maintain a high standard of professional training and discipline, Nehru Nursing College follows a structured set of academic guidelines. These ensure students develop into well-rounded, responsible, and competent nursing professionals ready to meet the challenges of healthcare environments.

    • Hair must be neatly tied up or braided; loose hair is not permitted during duty
    • Clinical attire may include aprons, nursing caps, and identification badges, depending on the department.

Discipline and Conduct

Discipline is a cornerstone of nursing education. Students are expected to uphold the values of respect, punctuality, honesty, and dedication.

  • All students must strictly follow college rules, clinical protocols, and hospital ethics.
  • Any form of misconduct, absenteeism, academic negligence, or breach of decorum may lead to disciplinary action.
  • Mobile phone usage is restricted during class hours and clinical sessions unless permitted for academic use.
  • Respect for faculty, patients, peers, and support staff is mandatory.

Vacation and Leave

  • Vacations and holidays are granted as per Indian Nursing Council (INC) norms.
  • Students are required to avail all official vacation days.
  • In case of absence due to illness or emergency:
    • The Principal must be informed immediately.
    • A leave letter accompanied by a valid medical certificate must be submitted upon return.
    • Unauthorized absence may lead to academic backlog or disciplinary action.

Fees and Payment Structure

  • All tuition fees, hostel fees, and special fees must be paid at the beginning of each academic year.
  • Students who fail to pay the fees on time will not be allowed to:
    • Attend classes
    • Participate in clinical postings
    • Appear for internal or university examinations
    • Fee receipts must be safely retained for future verification.

Attendance Policy

  • Minimum 90% attendance in theory and 100% in practical/clinical is required to appear for university examinations.
  • Attendance is monitored regularly. Defaulters may face suspension from examinations or academic penalties.

Withdrawal Policy

  • If a student chooses to withdraw after 15th September, she will be liable to pay the full course fee as per the norms of Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.
  • Official withdrawal must be communicated in writing with proper documentation and clearance.

These academic guidelines aim to instill professional discipline, foster academic integrity, and prepare students for the rigorous and responsible role of a nurse in today’s healthcare system.
