B.Sc Nursing – Course Duration and Structure

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc Nursing) is a 4-year full-time undergraduate program, divided into 8 semesters, following the curriculum prescribed by The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and approved by the Indian Nursing Council (INC).

Semester Breakdown (1st to 7th Semester)

  • Duration per Semester: 26 weeks
  • Instructional Weeks: 20 weeks (5 days/week)
  • Contact Hours: 40 hours/week × 20 weeks = 800 hours/semester
  • Working Days: Minimum 100 days per semester
  • Break-up of Remaining 6 Weeks:

8th Semester

Attendance Requirements

  • Minimum 90% attendance in theory classes
  • 100% attendance in practical/clinical training is mandatory

M.Sc Nursing – Course Duration and Structure

The Master of Science in Nursing (M.Sc Nursing) is a 2-year full-time postgraduate program offered in five specializations. The structure adheres to the guidelines of INC and Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.

Program Overview

  • Duration: 2 academic years
  • Working Days: Minimum 300 working days per year
  • Theory Attendance: Minimum 80%
  • Practical Attendance: 100% compulsory
  • Dissertation: Submission is mandatory in the 2nd year

Examination Attempts

  • A candidate is allowed a maximum of 3 attempts (including the first appearance) per paper.
  • The maximum permissible duration to complete the program is 4 years.
